SOLAR WATER HEATING SYSTEM IN BANJA LUKA




In Banja Luka, during cold and windy days of October, we started with the practical part of project BEN – Sustainability in Practice. The location was the Agriculture High School, because they could act as a good promoter of sustainability in the urban area.



They already have their own gardens and greenhouses for vegetables and an orchard.



Within the school there is a bakery and they develop mushroom production. The workshops, which are part of the BEN – Sustainability in Practice project, will improve the scope of areas which sustainable development covers, and which are an integral part of the school, and also will improve the level of interconnectedness between those areas. The first step on that path was the production and installation of a solar water heating system.



There were 13 active participants and 4 teachers which covered practical education about different parts of the solar hot water system. Participants built the solar collectors under supervision, and the installation was covered by GNAG staff. The solar system for hot water will be used for showers in the gym hall. The High School showed interest for using solar energy in other areas, such as heating of greenhouse for seedlings.
























The project „Balkan Ecovillage Network – Sustainability in Practice“ is being implemented with a grant given through the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe's SECTOR Programme. This Programme is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
