Project Sustainability in practice : 300000 Honest and dedicated workers employed
on 2007/11/22 18:48:32 (940 reads)

How to turn organic waste into first class super compost AND lower your eco footprint? It is easy - employ 300000 honest and dedicated worms as workers in your garden, as we did in organic urban gardens in Banja Luka and Sarajevo during the BEN - Sustainability in Practice Worm compost bin workshops...

WORM COMPOST BINS

The second part of practical education for urban sustainability was education about the recycling of organic waste from households and getting good quality humus for gardening during that process.

By using worm composting, we can get important resources from so called waste. The first compost bin was created in the garden area of the Agriculture High School in Banja Luka.

The second one was built for the Community Gardening Association (CGA), or how they call themselves, bio-gardeners. CGA is an important group of honest and dedicated people, which work in urban areas and provide knowledge and tools for setting up urban organic gardens for poor people, war refugees, organizations for unemployed women, various marginalized groups, and even in prisons.

Bio-gardens have the mission to provide life-needed food for people which don’t have enough money to provide it. They also create therapeutic places of mutual work and cooperation for people which are affected with war and poverty.

Now, 300000 also honest and dedicated worms produce organic humus for organic gardens from organic waste. In the second phase of the project, bio-gardens will get at least two more worm nests for composting.

The project „Balkan Ecovillage Network – Sustainability in Practice“ is being implemented with a grant given through the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe's SECTOR Programme. This Programme is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
